#lifestyle: Kintsugi Clothing rockt den Rollstuhl

Gerade habe ich auf Instagram einen interessanten Account entdeckt: Die in Manchester ansässige Marke Kintsugi Clothing (@kintsugi_clothing) hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, Kleidung speziell für die Bedürfnisse von Menschen mit Behinderung zu entwerfen.

Denn ein Rock, der sitzend im Rollstuhl getragen wird, darf, kann und soll zum Beispiel anderes geschnitten sein als einer, der stehend getragen wird und herunterhängen kann. Darüber habe ich mir noch nie Gedanken gemacht, aber natürlich ist das völlig logisch.

For context, feel free to read the text below 👇🏼 – – – – – – A few months ago, we offered to make Lucy’s prom dress after Jo, one of our customers, reached out to see if we knew anywhere that sold dresses suitable for the seated position. We didn’t, but wanted to help, so offered to create and deliver a bespoke dress, on the house! 😊 – – – – – – – Designer @harrietwarrilow1 sketched out a beautiful design, free of charge, and helped us find a seamstress and some fabric… We wish it all went perfectly from there, but that wouldn’t be honest. So… what happened? – – – – – – – We’re still relatively new to the world of fashion and although we’re obsessed with inclusive design, we’re still learning. So, while Lucy and Jo loved the sample, the fabric we used for the actual dress changed everything in ways we had not anticipated. It was stiffer than the sample fabric and it bunched up, making it hard to reach the wheels and creating an unflattering shape. With only a week or so to go before prom, it was bad news. – – – – – – – Fortunately, we knew the cause of the problem: the fabric. So our seamstress, Sarah-Louise, picked a new fabric with a similar drape to the sample, recreated it and posted it over to the girls. – – – – – – – I think you’ll agree that Lucy looks fabulous. The deep teal colour suits her perfectly and the matching hair and wheel covers from @izzywheels make the whole thing #outfitgoals – – – – – – – This experience has reminded us that we have a lot to learn. But we are committed to that journey and grateful to everyone travelling it with us. – – – – – – – Lucy and Jo, thank you for trusting us and being patient with us. Superschön finde ich übrigens die Erklärung des Namens: „Kintsugi is a Japanese artform and philosophy that sees broken pottery repaired with gold lacquer. As a metaphor it is profound, reminding us that – as we travel through life – we all pick up scars, both physical and emotional. But this doesn’t mean they weaken us or render us ‘broken’. Instead, they enhance what we were and add to our uniqueness.“

Wie auf der Webseite von Kintsugi zu lesen ist, können schon winzige Anpassungen am Design einen großen Unterschied und das Leben leichter machen. Kleidung zu schneidern, die sich damit ganz bewusst auseinandersetzt, ist eine sehr coole, unterstützenswerte Idee, finde ich. Vielleicht kennt Ihr ja jemanden, für den oder die die Marke interessant sein könnte?
